Founded in 2018, Pine Barrens Post is a mini-homestead and apiary in Sweetwater, New Jersey, rooted in the landscape and traditions of the surrounding Pine Barrens. What began as a land-sharing effort to make the Pine Barrens more accessible has grown into a hands-on homestead encompassing beekeeping, gardening, foraging, food preservation, herbalism, maple syrup production and the tending of chickens and ducks.
Guided by the seasons and a belief in sustainability and quality, Pine Barrens Post creates small-batch goods inspired by the land around them. Medicinal herbs are grown on a nearby organic plot and transformed into products for the collection, while the homestead’s beekeeping traditions are reflected in specialty honey and handcrafted beeswax goods.
Waste reduction is also part of the way Pine Barrens Post works. Customers are encouraged to return tins, jars and bottles for reuse, along with leftover beeswax from burned candles, allowing materials to find their way back into the making process whenever possible.
Balancing time-tested techniques with modern efficiencies, Pine Barrens Post creates thoughtful, seasonal goods with a strong sense of place and a close connection to the landscape of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
